For years my focus has been creating a healthy lifestyle for my family. I don’t like using anything that contains aluminum, dyes, parabens, chemical fragrances, or any of the other “ingredients” in body products that are known carcinogens.

Concerned about the ingredients in commercial deodorants, I began experimenting in my kitchen, determined to find a blend of organic products that would eliminate body odor without the potential of causing harm to the bodies I love – my children, my husband, my own.

I began with a memory.

When I was 15, I spent time overseas visiting my grandmother. One night, eating near a large canal, I was attacked by a swarm of mosquitoes.

My grandmother made a paste of cornstarch and water, which she applied repeatedly to my skin throughout the evening. By morning, the bites were gone.

I had used coconut oil for hair and skin care - and for cooking - for many years, and knew of the health benefits. I knew that sodium bicarbonate was an important factor in staving off cancer by keeping the body’s pH level in an alkaline state. It made sense that as a base for the deodorant, they were a wise choice.

Over time, the formula was refined, and shared with my siblings, close friends, and the women in my workout class. I figured the best people to test it were those who were putting themselves into a sweaty situation on a regular basis!

They loved it, they shared it, and now they come back for more for themselves, their friends, and their family members.

Ruma Organics is a family-centered business. My chief assistant in the kitchen is my father, a retired Engineer.
